First of all, if you want to get some really awesome rates on hotel rooms, come during the week as many days as possible. The casinos have been having so many vacancies during the week that they are really going lowball on room rates. You can still do a combination deal with weeknights and weekends and get some great package rates.
If you are set on staying on the strip, the best Casino Hotels to check for low prices are the Stratosphere, Circus Circus and the Sahara, or if you like the south end, the Excalibur. But you can still find deals offered by the higher end strip casinos like New York New York, the MGM Grand, or my favorite, the Luxor.
Downtown has really upgraded lately, you can get some really low rates – The Four Queens and Fitzgeralds are both 2 1/2 star hotels and are featuring unbelievably low room rates at present.
Another way to save is to stay off the strip at places like the Station Casinos, or closer in like the Orleans, the Gold Coast (super low rates right now, cheapest good buffet in town), or even Hooters on Tropicana, just off the strip.
Another great option is to use a company like Hotwire, who offers a service where you can save a lot of money on casino packages by taking what’s available amongst a class of hotels for a reduced rate. Hotwire has saved me tons of money on many occasions when I wasn’t dead set on a particular hotel, just on a particular class of hotel. I have found in several cases that the Hotel Casino will offer package deals on their website that are very similar in price to the big travel sites, but will throw in free show tickets or similar freebie. This can potentially save lots!
